This workshop is designed for anyone wishing to explore new possibilities in clay and make steps forward to more fully personalizing their work. Part Ceramics Art History, part Women's Studies and mostly studio "hands-on", this workshop will go beyond clay techniques to look for personal inspiration in the work of notable women ceramic artists. We will briefly study Betty Woodman, Kate Malone, Magdalena Ondundo and Judy Chicago. Discussion and clay techniques will be presented, after which students will pursue plenty of "hands-on" studio time both days. Among the techniques covered will be soft slab construction, press molds, textures and sprigging. Some past ceramics experience helpful but not necessary.
Madeline Kaczmarczyk is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Art at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI. She currently teaches all levels of ceramic instruction including wheel throwing, hand buidling and both high and low-fire glazes and kiln firings.
Her work will be on exhibit from April 23 until June 11, along with her husband Jerry Berta's art work, at the Amaco/Brent Contemporary Clay Gallery. The Gallery opening will be Friday, April 23 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.
